    • Welcome to the Capacity Building and Civic Action eeCourse. This course is designed to introduce you to Key Characteristic #4 Oriented Toward Capacity Building and Civic Action and Key Characteristic #5 A Long Term Investment in Change in NAAEE’s Community Engagement Guidelines. We will explore how environmental education can support capacity building for ongoing civic engagement in community life and the long-term commitment required to do so. This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained throughout CEG201, CEG301, and JEDI101.
    • INTRO TASK 1: Access the Course Journal. You will need to either Make a Copy of this file and edit it as your own Google Doc or download it as a Microsoft Word document. Click File, Make a Copy, or Download. You will record responses to prompts and complete tasks in your own version of the Course Journal throughout this course. At the end of each module, you will submit your Course Journal with the relevant sections completed.

    • INTRO TASK 2: KAEE Scavenger Hunt - Get to know KAEE by watching a video and visiting our website. Work through the scavenger hunt and record your answers in your Course Journal. If you have completed this task in a previous eeCourse, simply make note of that in the journal and move on to the next task in your course.

    • INTRO TASK 3: Review the syllabus and course overview below to familiarize yourself with the course and requirements.

    • Objectives and Expectations

      By the end of this course, you will be able to:
      • Assess your individual and organizational readiness for change.
      • Describe communication and social change approaches that integrate well with environmental education
      • List possible avenues for supporting and building community capacity.
      • Determine a variety of ways that you and your organization promote community action
      • Plan for the long-term support and viability of a community engagement project.
      As a student of this course, it is expected that you:
      • Commit the time required to complete all readings, assignments, and assessments.
      • Complete Modules 1-4 and their associated assignments, as well as submit the final course assessment, Community Environmental Education Project Action Plan Proposal
      • Input appropriate answers and responses in the Course Journal for all questions, data collection activities, etc.
      • Use appropriate grammar and mechanics throughout the course.

      Completing Tasks and Assignments

      Throughout the course, documents will be provided in the form of Google Docs.  You can either download it as a Word document or "Make a Copy" under the File menu to edit it as your own. Assignments can be submitted as Google Docs by using the link-sharing feature. Assignments can also be submitted by attaching Word documents.  If you have questions or would prefer another option, please contact the course moderator.


      Prerequisites
      • CEG210 - Environmental Education in Your Community
      • CEG211 - Building Relationships for Community EE
      • CEG220 - Sound Environmental Education Principles
      • Experience working in education is not required but highly encouraged.

      Required Materials

      Grading
      • Periodic assessments throughout each module must be completed with at least 80% accuracy or a score of 2 as indicated on the scoring guide provided.
      • The summative assessment for this course will be your Community Environmental Education Action Plan.  View the scoring guide.
      • To receive credit for completion and a course badge, you must complete all assignments and receive the scores as indicated above.
