After learning about key elements of community engagement throughout the prior CEG courses, in this module, participants will assess their own individual and organizational readiness to work closely with the community and help lay the groundwork for long-term success. This module builds on key characteristic 5.1 in the NAAEE Community Engagement Guidelines for Excellence.
Objectives:

- Identify strategies to assess your organization’s readiness for community engagement.

TASK 1: Read Guideline 5.1 on p. 53. Which indicators have you already implemented at your organization?
Which indicators do you think would be most difficult to achieve? Why? Record your response into your Course Journal.

TASK 2: Read the Readiness Checklist found in Ayre, D., G. Clough, and T. Norris. Facilitating Community Change Handbook. The Grove Consultants and International Community Initiatives, LLC. (2002) which is designed to assess individual, group, organizational, and community readiness to undertake community collaboration.
Complete the individual readiness portion and at least one of the others that you think are appropriate for your community environmental education action project.
In your Course Journal, explain which assessments you completed and why as well as the results and insights from those assessments.

TASK 3: Review Resource 4, p. 80, (You may have read this in the Community-Centered eeCourse). Consider the community partners you will be working with in your Community EE Action Plan proposal.
In your Course Journal, reflect on at least 4 of the 8 factors of readiness in regards to your project.
